WORKING GROUP ON DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF IRRIGATION SYSTEMS (WG-DMIS)
(Established : 1998)

MESSAGE FROM CHAIRMAN, WG-DMIS

It gives me great pleasure to introduce the activities of the Working Group to the wide irrigation community worldwide.

The WG was created in 1998 as a result of the merger of the Working Group on Operation, Maintenance and Management (WG-OMM) and the Working Group on Construction and Rehabilitation of Irrigation Systems (WG-CONST). This move reflected the increasing emphasis on improved management of existing irrigation facilities and a decline in the rate of irrigation expansion. This decision was in line with the need for improving the performance of irrigation   to meet future food demands in a sustainable manner.

Working Group members represent a cross section of ICID member countries with a wide range of expertise in the field of irrigation development and management. WG members  are also actively participatants in various ICID Task Forces and other activities.

The Working Group is particularly aware of the challenges facing the irrigation sector in future and devotes its best efforts to identify and address those issues that contribute to the improvement in the provision of irrigation and drainage service and maximise irrigation productivity. Our commitment is to assist professionals, managers and users in the irrigation community to achieve this goal.
